Earth to capture mini moon asteroid 2024 PT5 for two months starting Sunday
Earth will temporarily capture a small asteroid, named Asteroid 2024 PT5, starting Sunday. This "mini moon" is about 10 meters wide and will orbit Earth for approximately 57 days before leaving on November 25. The asteroid was first detected in August by astronomers in Spain. It will not complete a full orbit around Earth and is expected to return in 2055. The mini moon will not be visible to the naked eye or through amateur telescopes in India. It can only be observed with large, research-grade telescopes.
