Earth to welcome temporary mini moon 2024 PT5 for two months
Earth will soon have a temporary companion, a mini moon named 2024 PT5. This asteroid, about 33 feet (10 meters) wide, will be captured by Earth's gravity for roughly two months, starting Sunday. 2024 PT5 was discovered in August by astronomers at Complutense University of Madrid. These mini moons are believed to be more common, but they are difficult to detect due to their small size. The mini moon will orbit Earth for nearly 57 days before leaving on November 25. It is not visible to the naked eye or through amateur telescopes.
