East 17's Tony Mortimer reflects on 30 years of Stay Another Day and its impact on music therapy
East 17's Christmas hit "Stay Another Day" marks its 30th anniversary this year, continuing to gain popularity with 20 million streams in 2023. The song, originally released in 1994, has become a holiday classic despite its somber origins related to songwriter Tony Mortimer's brother's suicide. To commemorate the anniversary, Mortimer has partnered with the music therapy charity Nordoff and Robbins. He plans to re-release the song as part of a fundraising initiative, performing it with young clients at a special carol service on December 10. Mortimer reflects on the song's impact, acknowledging its emotional weight while also recognizing its role in raising awareness for music therapy. The limited-edition vinyl will be available on December 13, with proceeds supporting the charity.
