Eastern Visayas military reports major successes against New People’s Army in 2024

The military in Eastern Visayas reported significant successes against the New People’s Army (NPA) in 2024. Operations led to the deaths of 41 rebels, including six leaders, and the surrender of several members. The military seized 75 firearms, 48 anti-personnel mines, and dismantled 143 NPA camps, primarily on Samar Island. These actions have reportedly weakened the NPA's presence in the region. Military officials noted that the insurgency remains concentrated in Northern Samar. They expressed confidence in resolving the issue before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s term ends.
