ED excludes BJP from Kodakara hawala case allegations
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has released a charge sheet concerning the Kodakara hawala money case, which has caused a stir in Kerala politics. The ED's findings exclude the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from any involvement, much to the relief of the party. In contrast, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Congress have expressed disappointment as they had claimed the BJP was linked to the case. The charge sheet was submitted to a court in Kaloor. It centers around a black money transaction related to a highway robbery, specifically involving ₹3.56 crore. The ED has stated that this money was intended for a land purchase in Alappuzha, and it came from an individual named Dharmarajan. The agency did not investigate the alleged connection between this money and BJP’s election funds. Previously, local police suggested that the looted money was connected to the BJP's election campaign. They presented various statements and pieces of evidence to support this claim. However, the ED challenged these findings, asserting that their investigation focused solely on the money's original purpose rather than any political financing. Dharmarajan had previously informed investigators that the money was associated with the BJP's election efforts, but the ED found no evidence to back this claim. Instead, they concluded that the funds were intended for purchasing property.
