Eddie Ventresca places fifth at NCAA Wrestling Championships
Eddie Ventresca from Virginia Tech had a strong showing at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships. He finished in fifth place, his best result so far. This comes after struggling in 2024 when he did not make an All-American ranking. In the semifinals, Ventresca faced Oklahoma State’s Troy Spratley. The match ended in a close 6-4 loss, with Spratley scoring a last-minute takedown in overtime. Despite this setback, Ventresca secured his All-American status, improving from his seventh-place finish in 2023. Ventresca, who hails from Roxbury, New Jersey, is proud of his achievement. He reflected on the semifinals but remains focused on his overall success in the tournament. “I’m proud of myself. To get on the podium is a big accomplishment,” he said. This season was a comeback for Ventresca after struggling with a back injury last year. He ended the season with a record of 21 wins and 5 losses, facing tough competition. He also had notable wins against top-ranked wrestlers during the season. Looking ahead, Ventresca aims to compete and improve further next year. “I’m already thinking about next year,” he mentioned. For now, he is happy to be recognized as a two-time All-American and is eager to continue his wrestling journey.
