Edisto River set to reach major flood stage in South Carolina on November 12
The Edisto River is expected to reach a "major" flood stage of 15 feet on November 12, following significant rainfall. This will affect the floodplain from Canadys to Highway 17, making travel difficult and impacting nearby homes. Previously, the river peaked at over 17.2 feet during Tropical Storm Debby in August. Recent heavy rains and dam failures upstream have caused record-high levels in some areas, leading to substantial flooding. In response, a shelter is opening in Colleton County, and residents are encouraged to evacuate. The river is projected to start receding on November 13, but it may take days for water levels to return to normal.
