Effective patio cleaning method using washing-up liquid

A gardening expert has shared a simple cleaning method for patios using something many people already have in their kitchen: washing up liquid. As spring approaches and temperatures rise, many are looking to clean their patios to prepare for outdoor gatherings. According to Sam Williams from SGS Engineering, it's common for patios to develop mold and algae during the winter months, especially in shady or damp areas. He emphasizes that expensive cleaning products are not necessary. Instead, mixing a tablespoon of washing-up liquid with warm water creates an effective cleaning solution. To use this method, simply pour the soapy mixture onto the patio and scrub it with a bristle brush. For tougher stains, Williams recommends using white vinegar, which is eco-friendly but should not be used on limestone surfaces. While pressure washers may seem convenient, they can damage patios over time by causing erosion and uneven surfaces. Therefore, Sam advises using gentler cleaning methods first. For those with broken patio slabs, another set of experts suggests using a hammer and chisel to carefully remove loose stones without causing damage. If weeds are popping up through cracks in the patio, boiling water can be used to eliminate them. However, care should be taken to avoid splashing it on feet, as it can kill any nearby plants.
