Eglinton Crosstown LRT aims for 2025 opening as testing nears completion

Metrolinx CEO Phil Verster announced that the Eglinton Crosstown LRT may open in 2025, after years of delays and budget issues. The project was originally set to launch in 2020. Verster reported that 95 to 96 percent of testing is complete. However, a software design flaw was found, which posed safety risks. This issue is being addressed and should be resolved by the end of the year. A "revenue service demonstration" is expected in early 2025, which will showcase the rail service capabilities. Metrolinx will confirm an official opening date once the line is three months from full operation.
