Eight arrested in Amritsar drug smuggling operation
Police in Amritsar, Punjab, have dismantled a narco-terror module and a cross-border drug cartel, arresting eight people in total. Authorities seized more than 9 kilograms of heroin across two separate cases. The first case involved four individuals, including Sukhwinder Singh and his son Navjot Singh. They were caught during a raid near a government hospital in Naraingarh. Police confiscated 4 kilograms of heroin from them. The police suspect these men are connected to Pakistan-based drug smugglers and received their supply from the Attari area. Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police (DGP), stated that investigations revealed the gang was being managed by someone based abroad. Sukhwinder and Navjot had previously given heroin to other members of the gang for local distribution. In the second case, four more individuals linked to a cross-border drug cartel were arrested. This included 27-year-old Mandeep Kaur, believed to be the mastermind behind the operation. Initial inquiries suggested that she had ties with smugglers in Pakistan and occasionally wore a police uniform to conduct illegal activities. Details of the arrests were shared by police official Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. He noted that targeted actions were taken based on reliable intelligence. These recent developments are part of a broader investigation into drug smuggling, and police expect further arrests and drug recoveries in the days ahead.
