Eight dogs died in fire at illegal Ludhiana shelter
A fire at an unregistered dog shelter in Khanpur killed eight dogs on March 13. The shelter, operated by Gurjant Singh, was found to be illegal, housing 10 to 15 dogs in cages. The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Singh has been charged under animal cruelty laws for operating the shelter and for the deaths of the dogs. Police are investigating the incident and the conditions of the shelter. Singh claims the dogs were abandoned and rescued by him.
