Eight tornadoes confirmed in Chicago area Wednesday

The National Weather Service confirmed that eight tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area on Wednesday. Three tornadoes were reported in Gary, Indiana. They caused damage by downing power lines and tearing roofs off homes. A tornado also touched down in Highland, Indiana, and four locations in Illinois, including Frankfort, Joliet, Lynwood, and Steger. In Steger, a former factory had its roof torn off during the storm. Looking ahead, the weekend will bring a cold front on Saturday. Rain or snow showers are expected on Sunday, with a chance of more snow on Monday morning. In other news, the man who was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer during a domestic violence incident in Pullman has been identified by authorities. An 8-year-old boy who was fatally wounded Thursday in South Shore has also been identified. In health news, the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board voted on an application related to Northwest Community Hospital, deciding not to eliminate its inpatient psychiatric services.
