E.J. Speed may leave Colts for Bears' deal

The Indianapolis Colts have several former players who are free agents, including linebacker E.J. Speed. Speed had a strong 2024 season, making him one of the valuable players still available. This is his first time in free agency after signing a two-year extension in 2023. There are reports suggesting that the Chicago Bears may be interested in Speed. They could benefit from Speed's skills, especially since their new linebackers coach, Richard Smith, previously worked with him in Indianapolis. During the 2024 season, Speed achieved a career-high with 142 combined tackles. He also recorded 93 solo tackles and his first interception. With Zaire Franklin returning, the Colts might lean on younger players like Jaylon Carlies, who was drafted as Speed's potential replacement. Spotrac estimates that Speed could sign a two-year deal worth about $10.7 million. As he approaches his 30th birthday, it seems likely that he will find a new team soon. A move to Chicago could be a good fit as the Bears continue to rebuild their roster.
