Eklund aims for Sweden's World Championship roster
William Eklund, a forward for the San Jose Sharks, was disappointed to be left off Sweden's roster for the recent 4 Nations Face-Off. Officials chose a more experienced team, but Eklund is focused on finishing the NHL season strong. He hopes to represent Sweden at the IIHF World Championships in May, which will be held in his hometown of Stockholm. Eklund expressed his eagerness to join the team and has been in talks with officials, although nothing is finalized yet. He last played for Sweden at the 2022 World Junior Championships, which were canceled due to COVID-19. Eklund has been performing well this season, recently scoring his 15th goal and earning his 50th point in a match against the Carolina Hurricanes. In other Sharks news, Alexander Wennberg is dealing with a lower-body injury and missed practice. Coach Ryan Warsofsky is hopeful the veteran player can participate in the upcoming game against the Boston Bruins. Wennberg has had a solid season with 31 points in 64 games. Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic is also dealing with an upper-body injury, and his situation is being assessed. The Sharks have 12 games left in the season. In brighter news, defenseman Lucas Carlsson is set to make his Sharks debut after being recalled from the Barracuda. Carlsson, who signed a two-year contract last July, is ready to play against the Bruins. Additionally, the Sharks have signed forward Cameron Lund, a promising young player from Northeastern University, to an entry-level contract. Lund had an impressive season with 40 points in 37 games.
