An 80-year-old man in North Portland died after being hit by a car. Police reported that Gary L. Boyd was injured on January 15 and passed away two days later, on January 17. Boyd was found seriously hurt but conscious when officers arrived at the scene. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver who hit Boyd stopped and cooperated with the police. No charges or citations were issued. Investigators said Boyd lost his balance after stepping off a curb, which caused him to fall into the street. The driver tried to brake but unfortunately struck him. According to the police, the impact pushed Boyd about two feet. This incident is part of a troubling trend in Portland, where four of the seven traffic deaths in 2025 have involved pedestrians.
