Electric cars account for one in four UK car sales in November
In November, one in four cars sold in the UK was electric, marking an 11-month growth in electric vehicle sales. This increase was largely driven by significant discounts from manufacturers, totaling around £4 billion. Despite the rise in electric vehicle sales, overall new car registrations fell, particularly for petrol and diesel vehicles. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders noted that fleet sales declined, and private buyer sales also dropped. Manufacturers are expected to miss government targets for electric vehicle sales this year, which could lead to substantial payments. The government plans to meet with carmakers to discuss potential adjustments to these targets.
