Elon Musk announces third recipient of Neuralink brain implant
Elon Musk announced that a third person has received a Neuralink brain implant, bringing the total to three. The company has improved the devices with more electrodes and longer battery life since the first implant a year ago. The second recipient, who has a spinal cord injury, is using the device to play video games and learn design software. The first patient, also paralyzed, reported similar benefits. Neuralink plans to implant devices in 20 to 30 more people this year. Neuralink's approach involves robotic surgery to implant flexible electrodes, potentially recording from more neurons than other methods. However, other companies are also advancing brain-computer interface technology, with over 45 trials currently underway.
