ERC calls on power firms in Philippines to stagger bill payments after storm damage
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in the Philippines has urged power distributors to stagger electricity bill payments this quarter. This measure aims to assist households affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine. ERC's chief executive officer announced a potential moratorium on disconnections and payment collections from October to December 2024 in areas declared under a state of calamity. Bills may be paid in installments for those severely impacted. The ERC also instructed power companies to assess storm damage and expedite electricity restoration in affected regions. Meanwhile, Typhoon Leon has intensified into a super typhoon, threatening northern Luzon.
