Eric Adams warns of antisemitism in NYC mayoral race
Mayor Eric Adams recently claimed that an antisemite is running for mayor of New York City. During a meeting with Jewish leaders on March 19, he spoke about rising antisemitism and said one of the candidates is "spewing antisemitism." However, he did not name the candidate. Attendees believe Adams was referring to state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani is a Democratic Socialist known for his critical views on Israel. He was arrested during an anti-Israel protest in 2023 and has introduced legislation aimed at limiting New York funding for Israeli activities. Critics of Mamdani suggest he promotes antisemitism through his stance. Rabbi Joseph Potasnik raised concerns about Mamdani's views, questioning why he holds Israel to a different standard. Mamdani's campaign spokesperson denied any allegations of antisemitism, stating that Mamdani supports human rights and denounces all forms of hate. Adams's campaign representative confirmed his comments but stated that there are "more than one" candidate who fails to combat antisemitism. The mayor's office emphasized the need for leadership that opposes hatred in all forms and values the diversity of New York City.
