Ernakulam enhances measures against infectious diseases spread
In Ernakulam district, health officials are taking strong steps to control the rise of infectious diseases. The district administration and the Health department are focused on raising awareness and punishing those who create conditions for these diseases to spread. The Ernakulam district panchayat is also involved in this effort. A recent review found an increase in hepatitis A cases in areas like Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, and Eloor. These cases have mostly been linked to industrial units, hostels, and apartment complexes. Fortunately, the number of dengue cases has decreased over the last month. District Medical Officer Dr. Asha Devi announced that actions would be taken under the Kerala Public Health Act against those responsible for spreading these diseases. Recently, three establishments, including a pig farm, were shut down for not following health guidelines. The law allows fines ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹30,000 for violating health regulations, such as providing contaminated food and water or failing to vaccinate animals. As part of the hepatitis A control measures, authorities will target those distributing dirty drinking water. Transport companies must have the proper licenses from the Department of Food Safety to operate. The district administration is asking police and local authorities to help enforce these rules. Local bodies have been instructed to ensure that water sources, including household wells, are regularly chlorinated to maintain safety.
