ESA launches Proba-3 mission to create artificial solar eclipses for sun study
The European Space Agency (ESA) is set to launch its Proba-3 mission on Wednesday. This mission will use two satellites flying in precise formation to create artificial solar eclipses, allowing scientists to study the sun's corona in detail. Proba-3 will demonstrate formation flying, keeping the satellites just one millimeter apart. The mission aims to create 50 artificial eclipses each year, lasting six hours, providing continuous access to the corona, unlike traditional solar eclipses. In addition to studying solar phenomena, Proba-3 will test satellite servicing techniques and space debris removal. This technology could enhance future space operations and improve scientific research capabilities.
