Escaped patient charged with attempted murder in Hudson Valley
A psychiatric patient in New York has been accused of violent crimes after escaping from a treatment facility. Christopher Morgan, 40, from Monroe, is charged with attempted murder and robbery following an incident at a hospital on March 6. Morgan allegedly attacked his psychiatrist at Garnet Medical Center in Wallkill. Reports say he punched her multiple times and took her identification badge before fleeing. The psychiatrist suffered serious injuries from the attack. Authorities apprehended Morgan the next day in Port Jervis. In addition to the violent charges, he faces accusations of making bomb threats to local law enforcement. He was sent back to jail with bail set at $250,000. Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler emphasized the importance of protecting healthcare workers from violence. He praised law enforcement for their quick response in capturing Morgan. Morgan is scheduled to appear in court again on May 5, 2025.
