EU affirms ICC arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, and Deif are binding
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, citing alleged war crimes. The EU's foreign policy chief stated these warrants are binding for all member states. Joseph Borrell emphasized that the warrants must be respected and implemented by the 124 countries that are parties to the court. This development could limit Netanyahu's international travel, as any member state is obligated to arrest him if he enters their territory. The ICC's decision follows ongoing uncertainty about Deif's status, as Israel claimed to have killed him in July, but Hamas has not confirmed his death. Borrell will step down next month, passing his role to Kaja Kallas.
