EU foreign policy chief insists member states must enforce ICC arrest warrants against Israeli leaders and Hamas commander
The European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, stated that EU member states must comply with International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants against Israeli leaders and a Hamas commander. The warrants were issued for alleged crimes against humanity. The ICC issued warrants on November 21 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former defense minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri. Borrell emphasized that all EU countries, including those seeking membership, are obligated to uphold the Rome Statute. Borrell also addressed accusations of antisemitism related to criticism of Israeli policies. He defended the right to critique Israeli government actions without facing such allegations. The situation follows a significant escalation in violence in Gaza, resulting in a humanitarian crisis.
