EU issues guidance on banned AI uses under new AI Act
The European Union has issued guidance on its AI Act, which bans certain high-risk uses of artificial intelligence, such as social scoring and harmful manipulation. This follows the first compliance deadline that recently took effect. The EU Commission's guidelines aim to help developers understand and comply with the AI Act. While the guidance is not legally binding, it provides legal explanations and examples for stakeholders. The guidelines are currently in draft form and will be formally adopted after translations are completed. Member States have until August 2 to designate bodies responsible for enforcing the AI Act.
