EU praises Maia Sandu's re-election as Moldova's president amid election tensions
The European Union has praised the re-election of Moldova's pro-European President Maia Sandu, who secured 55.41% of the vote amid allegations of Russian interference. Her opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, received 44.59%.
Sandu's victory was largely supported by Moldovans living abroad, while she lost in the country’s rural areas. In her victory speech, she emphasized unity and her commitment to all citizens, regardless of their voting choice.
The election followed a narrow referendum in favor of EU membership. Authorities reported various attempts at destabilization, including cyberattacks and allegations of vote-buying linked to Russia.
