EU praises re-election of pro-European president in Moldova
The European Union has praised the re-election of Moldova's pro-European President Maia Sandu, who secured 55.41% of the vote amid allegations of Russian interference. Her opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, received 44.59%.
Sandu's victory follows a recent referendum where Moldovans narrowly supported EU membership. The election highlighted deep divisions in Moldova, with urban areas favoring the EU and rural regions leaning pro-Russian.
In her victory speech, Sandu promised to be a "president for all" and emphasized the importance of peace and harmony. She acknowledged the support from Moldovans abroad, which played a crucial role in her win.
