European airports expand to meet increasing travel demand
Major airport expansion projects are underway across Europe as air travel demand rebounds post-pandemic. London Heathrow has received approval for a third runway and terminal upgrades, aiming for completion by 2035. Florence Airport plans to replace its runway and build a new terminal by 2035, focusing on sustainability with a design that includes a rooftop vineyard. Amsterdam Schiphol is investing over $6.5 billion to enhance its facilities, addressing maintenance needs and expanding capacity. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport will receive a $2.2 billion investment to increase capacity to over 90 million passengers by 2031. Frankfurt Airport's new Terminal 3 is set to open in 2026, adding capacity for 19 million more passengers.
