European gas prices drop as weather warms up
European natural gas prices fell as warmer weather is expected and talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are planned. Prices dropped by up to 3.1%, briefly falling below €41 to €42 per megawatt-hour. Speculation about increased Russian gas supplies has risen amid efforts to end the war in Ukraine. However, analysts caution that current discussions focus on a ceasefire, not a full peace agreement, which may take months to achieve. A cold snap in Europe is ending, which may help replenish gas inventories that are currently at 35% capacity. Weaker demand in Asia is also allowing Europe to access more liquefied natural gas.
