Eurowings flight returns to Düsseldorf after weather issues
Passengers on a Eurowings flight experienced an unexpected 8-hour round trip when their plane could not land in Tromsø, Norway. The flight, which was supposed to take about 3 hours from Düsseldorf, Germany, took off on Saturday afternoon but faced trouble as they approached their destination. Winds at Tromsø airport reached 54 miles per hour, too strong for the Airbus to land safely. As a result, the pilots diverted to Rovaniemi in Finland. After waiting for the weather to improve, they attempted to return to Tromsø. Unfortunately, strong winds forced them to turn back once again. The crew then decided to fly back to Düsseldorf, where they landed around 11 p.m. — almost eight hours after taking off. Eurowings arranged overnight accommodations for the 120 passengers. The next day, a second flight successfully reached Tromsø at 11 a.m., leaving passengers 20 hours behind schedule. Many other flights into Tromsø were also affected by the strong winds, with 13 landings canceled that same day.
