EU's Borrell insists member states must enforce ICC warrants against Israeli and Hamas leaders
The European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, stated that EU member states must execute International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants against Israeli leaders and a Hamas commander. The ICC issued these warrants for alleged crimes against humanity. Borrell emphasized that all EU countries, as signatories to the Rome Statute, are obligated to comply with ICC decisions. This includes countries seeking EU membership, highlighting the importance of uniform adherence to international law. The ICC's warrants target Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former defense minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri. The charges include serious offenses related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which has resulted in significant casualties and humanitarian issues.
