Everett man faces hate crime charges for pipe bomb

An Everett man has been arrested after using a pipe bomb to blow up an SUV. The explosion occurred at an apartment complex on New Year's Eve. Security footage shows a person throwing an object through the SUV's window before it exploded. The suspect, 54-year-old Steven Goldstine, lives close to the scene of the crime. The couple who owned the SUV, both Black, say Goldstine visited a friend in their building. They felt unsafe because he and his friends often made racial slurs towards them. The wife had previously complained about Goldstine and his friends smoking near her vehicle, which aggravated her breathing condition. She mentioned that her husband had a fight with Goldstine weeks before the attack, and they believe the bombing was an act of retaliation. Following the explosion, the couple received a threatening voicemail from Goldstine. In it, he mocked the wife about her health and referenced the explosion. The wife expressed her desire for Goldstine to stay in jail and pay for the damage he caused. When police arrested Goldstine, they found 750 rounds of ammunition and fireworks in his home. He is facing several charges, including arson and committing a hate crime. His bail is set at $500,000.
