Ex-NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey calls sex-abuse allegations an office fling as department faces shake-ups
Former NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey has dismissed sexual abuse allegations against him as an "office fling." His comments come amid significant changes within the NYPD, particularly in the Internal Affairs Bureau, which is responsible for investigating such claims. Maddrey's attorney claims the relationship with Lt. Quathisha Epps was consensual, while Epps alleges she was coerced into sexual acts in exchange for overtime pay. Following these allegations, several officers in the Internal Affairs Bureau have been transferred. Epps filed a formal complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, stating Maddrey retaliated against her after she rejected his advances. Maddrey resigned just before the complaint was submitted, claiming it was inappropriate to be in a relationship with anyone.
