Excess protein may accelerate aging, says nutritionist
Nutritionist Lovneet Batra warns that excessive consumption of animal-based protein and protein powders may speed up aging through a process called glycation. This can lead to skin aging, joint stiffness, and metabolic issues. Batra emphasizes that high intake of animal protein increases Advanced Glycation End-Products (AGEs), which can negatively affect metabolism and increase inflammation. She advises against overusing protein shakes due to added sweeteners and preservatives. Instead, Batra recommends plant-based protein sources like nuts, lentils, and quinoa. She suggests balancing these with antioxidants from fruits and vegetables for better health.
