Experts promote water harvesting techniques in Rajasthan, Meghalaya
Experts gathered in Visakhapatnam for a workshop on World Water Day to discuss important water conservation methods. The event was organized by the A.P. Pollution Control Board, along with the GVMC and the District Legal Services Authority. During the workshop, speakers highlighted successful rainwater harvesting techniques from Rajasthan and Meghalaya. They focused on Rajasthan's use of kunds and sponge parks, as well as Meghalaya's traditional bamboo drip irrigation. M. Venkata Seshamma, the chief guest and DLSA secretary, emphasized the need for efficient water use and conservation. She mentioned various strategies, including rainwater harvesting, better irrigation practices, and wastewater treatment. She also touched on the importance of public awareness about water issues. Environmental experts from Andhra University participated in the discussion. They noted the vital role of glaciers in providing fresh water worldwide and underscored the urgency of conservation efforts due to climate change.
