Extreme wildfire risk warning issued for Scotland

bbc.com

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has issued an "extreme" wildfire warning for all low-lying areas in Scotland starting Friday. They are advising residents and visitors in rural areas to be very cautious. The warning comes as temperatures are expected to rise to 18C, following a week of dry and sunny weather. Currently, there is also a "very high" wildfire risk in central and south-west Scotland. Wildfires are large, uncontrolled fires that can spread quickly over more than 1,000 square metres. These fires often occur in areas with dry vegetation, which fuels the flames. Murray Dalgleish, a group commander with SFRS, emphasized the need for extreme caution. He warned that wildfires can destroy livestock, farmland, wildlife, and important natural sites. They can also threaten the safety of people in rural areas. Dalgleish urged the public to think carefully before using anything that creates a flame. He reminded everyone to act responsibly in rural settings and to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code to help prevent wildfires.
