Extremist groups escalate violence with executions in Syria following Assad's fall
Extremist groups in Syria are executing civilians and soldiers following the recent fall of Bashar al-Assad's government. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has been filmed carrying out executions in al-Rabia, labeling victims as "Shabiha," a term for pro-government supporters. The Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) has also been reported to execute civilians and destroy property in Manbij City. Meanwhile, ISIS killed 54 Syrian soldiers fleeing an attack in Homs province. Sheikh Tawfiq al-Bhouti was assassinated by unknown attackers. He was the son of a prominent Sunni scholar and a supporter of Assad, opposing extremist groups throughout the Syrian conflict.
