Exxon plans natural gas plant to power data centers with low emissions
Exxon is planning to build a large natural gas-powered plant to supply electricity to data centers. This plant will use technology to capture over 90% of its carbon emissions and will be Exxon's first power plant not for its own operations. The company aims to launch the plant within five years, which is quicker than constructing new nuclear reactors. It will operate off-grid, avoiding delays related to grid connections. This shift reflects the growing demand for clean energy from tech companies. Exxon plans to invest $30 billion over six years in emission reduction and alternative energy while continuing oil and gas production. The company sees this as an opportunity to enter the power market, leveraging its expertise in carbon management.
