Failed hip and knee surgeries increasing, experts warn

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Lucknow is facing a rising concern about the failure rates of hip and knee replacement surgeries. Experts say that implants are lasting only 8-10 years, while they should last 20-25 years. This issue was highlighted during a pre-event for an upcoming arthroplasty conclave in the city. The conclave, organized by the Lucknow Orthopaedic Society and KGMU, will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre. According to Prof. Shailendra Singh, the organizing secretary, the university sees 10-12 cases of failed surgeries each month. The primary reasons for these failures include lack of proper training for doctors in the surrounding areas of Lucknow. Additionally, many patients delay their surgeries due to fears of complications. The conclave aims to train over 200 surgeons from across India in joint replacement techniques. Prominent experts, such as Dr. Rakesh Rajput and Prof. Lalit Maini, will lead the training sessions. They hope to improve surgical outcomes and address the rising failure rates.
