Fake bomb threats linked to Russian emails disrupt US polling locations on Election Day
On Election Day, the FBI reported that fake bomb threats targeting polling locations in several U.S. states were linked to Russian email domains. None of the threats were deemed credible, but they caused brief evacuations at some sites in Georgia.
In Georgia, over two dozen phony bomb threats were reported, primarily in Fulton County. Officials are seeking to extend voting hours at affected locations, which reopened after about 30 minutes. The threats were similar to tactics used in past Russian interference.
U.S. intelligence has previously accused Russia of meddling in elections, including the 2016 presidential race. Recent incidents include the creation of false videos aimed at discrediting candidates, highlighting ongoing concerns about foreign interference in the electoral process.
