Fake cop arrested for extorting couples in Bengaluru
Bengaluru police have captured a man named Asif Khan, who pretended to be a police officer for 15 years. He used this disguise to extort money from couples by threatening them with charges of "public indecency." Khan, who dropped out of school after 10th grade and worked part-time as an autorickshaw driver, targeted couples looking for privacy in their cars. Many victims were scared to challenge his authority and handed over cash, jewelry, and demanded ATM withdrawals to avoid embarrassment. His latest victim was approached on March 5, when he was sitting in a car with a female colleague. Khan threatened him with legal action, took him to a quiet area, and stole his gold chain and ring. He also forced the victim to withdraw money from an ATM. Khan attempted the same trick again on March 9 with another couple. The Jayanagar police received multiple complaints and began searching for him. Their efforts paid off when they arrested Khan, bringing his long-running scam to an end. At least 19 cases have been filed against him, and police recovered over 80 grams of gold. This was not Khan's first offense; he was previously arrested in 2018 for the same crime but returned to it after serving his sentence.
