False claim about DOGE cutting Tyson Foods grant
A Facebook post recently claimed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cut an $82 million grant to Tyson Foods. This grant was supposedly meant to help develop insect proteins to replace beef and pork. However, this claim is false. The false information comes from a post made by a satirical page called "America’s Last Line of Defense." This page openly states that its content is not real. The claim received over 200 likes but was not backed by any credible sources. U.S. District Judge Ellen Hollander recently blocked DOGE from accessing Social Security Administration data. This decision was made because she accused DOGE of inappropriately searching for suspected fraud. Tyson Foods has not responded to the claim, and there is no official announcement from DOGE or its lead Elon Musk. Although the claim is unfounded, Tyson Foods did announce a partnership with an insect ingredients company called Protix in October 2023.
