Family dispute led to gun discharge in Louth home
A family dispute over land led to a serious incident in Louth, where a shotgun was fired in a kitchen. The case was examined in Dundalk Court. Eoin Lennon, 42, from Tallanstown, pleaded guilty to recklessly discharging a firearm. This took place on January 1, causing damage to a kitchen wall. The court was informed that Lennon had been in custody since the incident occurred. During the hearing, Sergeant Letitia McConnell explained that Lennon was alone when he fired the shotgun. He was intoxicated at the time in a home connected to his family’s bar. Gardaí arrested him right after the incident. Lennon has a history of previous convictions, including for criminal damage and a traffic offense. His lawyer mentioned that he has mental health issues and was struggling with family tensions over land after his father passed away. The shotgun belonged to Lennon’s late father, and police seized it for evidence. His lawyer noted that Lennon had improved while in custody and wanted to reconcile with his family. Lennon’s bail had been set, but he chose to remain in custody. The judge, Nicola Andrews, allowed for an appeal to change the bail conditions. The case will continue on April 2 to review a probation report and determine Lennon's living situation. The judge emphasized that she did not want him near his family's bar.
