Family suspects foul play in elder man's death

Mumbai police are investigating the suspicious death of 85-year-old Balraj Mehra. His death follows a hit-and-run incident linked to a property dispute. The accident occurred while he was walking on Dr Annie Besant Road in Prabhadevi. Balraj Mehra was hit by an unidentified two-wheeler and was taken to B Y L Nair Hospital. He was declared dead on Monday morning. Mehra owned a property called Mehra House in Worli, which was the center of a legal battle with a builder. His family suspects that foul play may be involved. Mehra’s daughter, Anita Sharma, lives in the USA and had returned to India for medical treatment and to visit her father. She learned about the accident from Manish Barkhada, who manages her father’s property. An eyewitness reportedly used Mehra's phone to alert the property secretary, who quickly rushed to the scene. Police have registered a case against the driver who fled the scene. They are investigating potential charges of negligence and rash driving. Authorities are also looking into the connection between the accident and Mehra’s ongoing property dispute, where he had previously claimed that the builder had hired goons and forged documents. CCTV coverage at the accident site is lacking, making it difficult to identify the vehicle involved. However, police are reviewing footage from surrounding areas. An officer stated that they are considering all possibilities, including foul play linked to the ongoing legal issues. No arrests have been made as of now.
