Fans urge support for Looney Tunes film's success
A new Looney Tunes movie has become a surprise hit with fans after being dropped by Warner Bros. The film, titled The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, was released in theaters on March 14. Now, fans and one of its artists are pushing to keep it showing in cinemas. Storyboard artist Michael Ruocco is encouraging people to buy tickets. He believes that "word of mouth and hype works" to support the film. Despite initial plans to release it on HBO Max, the studio canceled its distribution. A different distributor, Ketchup, took over and launched the movie nationwide. Ruocco confirmed that The Day The Earth Blew Up will play in theaters through the upcoming weekend. However, it still needs strong ticket sales to remain in cinemas longer. Currently, the movie has a good audience score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it has earned only $5 million so far against its $15 million budget. Fans are expressing their support online, with several stating they plan to see the movie soon. The film features beloved characters Porky Pig and Daffy Duck as they try to save Earth from aliens. This is the first fully animated feature-length Looney Tunes movie made for theaters. The film is currently showing in U.S. theaters, with a UK release date still unknown.
