Farage criticized for neglecting Essex constituents' needs
Nigel Farage is in the United States to speak at a fundraiser for Donald Trump's Republican party. This event is part of his busy schedule that shows he has spent over 800 hours on outside work since becoming an MP for Clacton in Essex last July. Farage is set to give a keynote address at the Florida Republicans’ “Disruptors” dinner. Tickets for the event are priced at $25,000 for top sponsors. His recent trips include eight to the US, funded by donors or for paid speeches. Despite his overseas commitments, Farage has missed important parliamentary sessions, such as Prime Minister’s questions. Critics accuse him of neglecting his role as an MP. Labour MP Matt Western called it embarrassing that Farage is not focused on his constituents. In defense, Farage claims he represents Clacton globally and insists he visits his constituency frequently. However, his outside work does not seem to affect support for his party, which is emerging as a competitor against Labour and the Conservatives in polling. On another front, a Conservative shadow minister has hinted at a possible alliance with Farage’s party. This has drawn criticism from the Liberal Democrats, who say such suggestions are inappropriate. Additionally, Farage is dealing with internal challenges after a fallout with a former MP, Rupert Lowe. This has resulted in resignations among party officials at a crucial time for upcoming elections.
