Farm union activists clash with police in Moga
Farm union activists clashed with police in Moga on Thursday. They were trying to march to the deputy commissioner's office to protest the detention of farmer leaders in Mohali. The activists are part of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Sidhupur). Protesters chanted slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab. They demanded the immediate release of Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarvan Singh Pandher, who are leaders of farmer groups. Women protesters were also involved and faced police action during the demonstration. In a related incident, another group tried to block traffic near Gidderbaha on a main highway. Police responded with mild cane charges to disperse them. Several protesters were detained by police in Muktsar. Authorities had warned that protests would not be allowed to disrupt traffic. Many police officers were stationed across southwest Punjab to manage the protests, and senior officials monitored the situation closely. In Sangrur, activists from a different faction of the BKU also protested outside the district administration complex. Police detained several members, including the president of BKU (Azad). Buses were on standby to transport detained protesters.
