Farmers in Greater Noida threaten protest over issues

Farmers in Greater Noida are threatening to protest if their issues are not discussed before March 20. The Kisan Sangharsh Morcha (KSM), a farmers' union, made the warning on Monday. The union leaders met with local police seeking a meeting with officials to address their concerns. Initially, the farmers planned to hold a panchayat during Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit on March 8. However, they postponed it after the district administration asked them to do so. Farmer leader Rupesh Verma expressed frustration, saying that officials only take action when protests are underway. He noted that despite promises from the chief minister, no meaningful steps have been taken to resolve farmers' issues. One major concern for the farmers is the delay in implementing recommendations from a high-power committee regarding new residential land laws in rural areas. They also want a proposal approved that would allocate 10% of residential plots to farmers, but no progress has been made. Deputy Commissioner of Police Saad Miyan Khan stated that efforts will be made to set up a meeting before March 20. If not, the farmers will proceed with their Mahapanchayat, and authorities will have to manage the situation.
