Farmers protest after suicide of Chandrakant Belur

A farmer's death has sparked protests in Afzalpur, Kalaburagi district. The farmer, Chandrakant Belur, was 57 years old and took his own life due to financial difficulties. His suicide led to an outcry among local farmers. On Saturday, farmers gathered outside the Tehsil office in Afzalpur with Belur's body. They blocked the Kalaburagi-Vijayapura State Highway for almost four hours. The protest ended when a government official promised compensation for the farmer's family. Afzalpur MLA M.Y. Patil visited the family and assured them support from the State government, including a ₹2,000 monthly pension. Farmers' leader Avvanna Myakeri criticized the Congress-led government for its handling of farmer suicides and the financial struggles that lead to such tragedies.
