Father and brother arrested for woman's wedding murder

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her father and brother in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, one day after her wedding. Neha Rathore had married her boyfriend, Suraj, in an inter-caste ceremony, a union frowned upon by her family. On March 12, Neha was reportedly strangled with her wedding dupatta. Her family cremated her quickly, burning all her belongings, including her clothes. Police have arrested her father, Bhanu Rathore, and brother, Himanshu, for her murder. They have been charged with murder and destruction of evidence. Neha’s family expressed various explanations for her death, with her mother initially claiming she had a fever. The family was reluctant to discuss the incident, but a neighbor, Jyoti, noted the mixed reactions in the community after hearing about Neha's death. Witnesses said her father and brother confessed to killing her because they disapproved of her marriage. Police discovered that they were angry with Neha for marrying someone outside of their caste without their permission. Suraj shared his sadness over Neha's murder, recalling their dreams of a future together. He revealed that they planned to marry quickly, fearing her family would object. Despite the tragedy, the couple’s love lingered in memories and photographs of happier times. The police are gathering evidence, including CCTV footage and forensic details, as they continue to investigate this case of alleged honor killing.
